TOP 9 Curious Refuge Animation Competition 2025

Cursed Cat made it to the TOP9 in the Curious Refuge AI-Animation Competition! 🐈‍⬛🎉

The results came in yesterday around midnight our time, so running on little sleep, but feeling grateful!

Overall, the level of the competition has really gone up over the year, so we’re happy to be in such good company.

Some comments from the judges:
🗣️ “This is honestly one of my favorite films visually.”
🗣️ “Really fun to watch… lost me a little in the end plot-wise.”

Audience feedback was also really positive, people seemed to love the visual style and the mix of English and German.

Personally, I think our storytelling is improving. We managed to create an interesting world and fun characters. That said, we did leave the ending a bit open on purpose, just in case we want to continue the story. In hindsight, that probably hurt us a bit, since the top entries had more complete stories from start to finish.

Curious Refuge also featured our film in their instagram, newsletter and thumbnails, which gave us some really nice visibility. Super cool to see!
